Philadelphia Workshops - Treating Life's Traumas

Treating Life's Traumas
Friday, September 23, 2011
9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Workshop Presenter: Catherine G. Fine, Ph.D

Workshop Description

No one really seems to escape trauma whether it be loss, abuse, betrayal or illness. We each have our story as do our patients. Whether our patients are diagnosed with formal PTSD or a  trauma that occurs in the course of everyday life, therapists are there  to help them through the process of healing in an environment of trust and safety.  This    workshop will describe an ego state model of trauma treatment that helps therapists of varying orientations track and engage patients’ treatment trajectories as well as equip  patients to better engage, monitor, metabolize, and integrate traumatic material. Case examples will be used to demonstrate the use of this model and to deepen participants’ understanding.

Workshop Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  1. Explain the concept of ego states and its utility in the understanding and treatment trauma;
  2. Apply this model in creating a therapeutic transitional space;
  3. Describe  interventions to stabilize  traumatized patients;
  4. Utilize the BASK model of dissociation to select points and methods of intervention;
  5. Understand and implement therapeutic abreaction in the treatment of trauma.
